We’re thrilled to share that the New York State and City leadership have unveiled a major new step toward universal early childhood care – starting with two-year-old children right here in New York City. This initiative, often referred to as “2-Care” or Universal 2K, is designed to expand free, high-quality early childhood care and build on the success of NYC’s 3K and Pre-K programs.
- 🔷 Beginning this fall, the program will offer free child care for 2-year-olds in high-need neighborhoods.
- 🔷 It will then phase in citywide over the next few years, with the goal of serving all interested families.
- 🔷 The State has committed to fully fund the first two years of the program as it gets off the ground.
- 🔷 Alongside 2-Care, investments are also being made to expand and stabilize 3K and Pre-K access for more families.
This new effort represents a historic step toward making early childhood care more affordable and accessible for NYC families – giving children a strong start and easing the financial burden on parents. More details on enrollment, locations, and timelines will be shared as the rollout progresses.
